>> well, it's not clear what john boehner is saying. what he said the other day was heard differently by different people. if he is finally willing to say we need to take a balanced approach to long-term deficit through a mix of cuts and revenue. if you don't ask folks at the high end to pitch in more, you hit everybody else harder. so if he's willing to finally say okay very wealthy or higher income individuals need to pitch in more to reduce our deficit, in a real way, we can make progress. it would be great if he put his plan out on the table which is what the president's done. then we could see how meaningful it was. what's the best likelihood this will be resolved in some meaningful way before the physical clal cliff takes affect or you'll get some things done and kick it down the road another six months or a year to give yourselves more time to work on the bigger issues? >> when it comes to this sequester, i think there's a chance we could at least come up with an alternative set of savings. i would hope to carry us through the re

you have speaker boehner saying, let's get compromise. this is the time to bring that debt down. we seriously have to do it. i don't think anyone disputes that, but it has to be a mix of spending cuts and the revenue. and the one figure that i'd like to add here is how much revenue we get by just going back to the clinton levels at $250,000 and above. that's $700 billion in tenures. that's what draws people to that number when you add that in and then close some loopholes and subsidies and do the budget cuts, we have already done a trillion. you can get to the $4 trillion that most economists say would at least lead us to the path to reduce debt over ten years. >> because it is so much money and because it would be so relatively painless for people who have income above $250,000 to see that change go back, because bill crystal is saying this now, because the president is clear that's what he's running on, it feels that's clear that's within the realm of the possible. but what else didn't previously peel like it was in the realm of possible? >> i think immigration reform. i called

in terms of raising revenue which boehner grew about. if you grew the economy at reagan levels instead of two percent and obama and french levels, just growing faster and do that for a decade, the federal government gets trillions in taxes. we could undo the damage by having higher growth. >> gretchen: that's the difference in ideology. raise it to 3#.9 percent x. replace the alternative minimum tax with the buffet and raise the state tax and long-term capitol gains from 15-20. where do you think that those four points will go in negotiations with the republicans? >> mr. boehner said one thing he's not willing to give up on is maintaining the 35 percent top rate. obama wants 39.6 percent. it is rather significant increase. the obama care tax increase. he takes the tax rate on half of all maul - on small business fall in the higher tax rate of 44 percent and up from 35 percent that. is a body blow to small businesses . obama doesn't care. they are not unionized and don't help him out. we have to protect that part of the country and focus
